Jr Dees was born in Uma Arizona, where he learned to swing a rope at the young age of 2. At the age of 6 Jr moved to Aurora South Dakota to live with Matt and Kristen Zancanella. Not having the resources to further his roping abilities in Arizona, moving to live with Zancanella's gave him the opportunities he needed to realize his true passion, which became team roping. At 9 Years old Jr entered his first jackpot, at 10 years old won his first saddle.
He began to compete in amateur rodeos through the SDRA at 12 years old. In 2013 joined Little Britches Rodeo Association, that same year winning the world in team roping. 2014, also competing in calf roping, ending that year reserve world champion team roper. 2015 participated in team roping, calf roping, and ribbon roping, winning the world for the second time in the team roping. 2016 Jr decided was going to be his last year competing in little britches as he was starting his journey in the PRCA, that year he ended up, world champion ribbon roper, team roper, and all-around world champion.
2016 was the beginning of his step up year, having the opportunity to join the PRCA and compete in larger team ropings. Accomplishments as a rookie in the PRCA consisted of reserve champion rookie of the year, 29th in the world, reserve badland circuit champion header, Walla Walla Washington team roping champion, second round Cheyenne Wyoming team roping champion, and Cody Wyoming reserve champion. U.S. finals resulted in Jr's biggest check to date, winning the #15 shootout. Jr also won the #15 preliminary that same year.
